Some pages with two photographs. Very high standard of photography with excellent clear detail. See photographs of tile page and frontispiece, typical text page with illustrations and a photographic page. This Batsford series had a gutta perch binding so the plates of virtually all contemporary publishers cloth bindings have dried out and become loose. These books therefore need to be rebound which is expensive. This volume has been professionally rebound using the original boards with the original decorative spine laid down. 69 text pages. Occasional generally light foxing. Neat private inscription on front free end paper. The decoration on the original boards and spine are a bit dull with some wear and there is a stain on the rear board. See photograph of front board. This book cost me 52 pounds plus the rebinding costs of about 40 pounds and was in my collection for a number of years. It is now available as I have acquired a copy with brighter front board. I have waited over ten years to achieve this as the bindings of this series are nearly always dull..
