Description / Information:
A rare first edition of this BRILLIANT and very unusual little book of 50 pages, in very good condition. Includes account of the train journey from Waterloo to Exeter and then various routes through Cornwall and Devon. The front is in black "Art Nouveau" design with a "window" cut-out with acetate behind and a coloured drawing of a country scene . As is normal this copy excludes the acetate wrapper that rarely survives. Words "library copy" lightly stamped in two places in the text without any other details so it is not clear whether this was a library copy used by the railway or a private copy as there is no other reference to library. This is an unusual extremely attractive item with many line drawings in blue and red around the borders of each page. To the best of our knowledge is it unlike anything else produced by this author. on the rare occasion that the acetate wrapper is there the book would cost £50 +. Unusually the book does not have traditional front sheet as the reference to Southern Railway was for some reason only included as overprinting to the acetate wrapper. The is a concertina 5 page foldout route map printed both sides and including photographs at the rear and this is in fine condition. The back cover has a small tear at the bottom that has been repaired. the back is black with outlines of 10 birds in flight.
