PLEASE do NOT order through abe before contacting us direct, as the standard abe postage rates do NOT apply. This book is generally in excellent condition. Boards are generally very good. Bindings firm and sound. We have three volume. Vol 5 Jan to June 1842 book ref 4776 + Vol 6 July to Dec 1842 book ref 4772 + Vol 38 July to Dec 1870 book ref 4771. These are quality works on quality paper in half leather bindings in lovely condition. Internally very crisp, generally clean and bright. All volumes with marbelled bords and all page edges. Vols 5 and 6 are in brown leather with gold on black leather title labels. Vol 38 in green leather. Each volume has 6 issues of around 80 pages each. Each issue has two quality full page engraved plates. Normally these are of animals including sheep, pigs, horses, cattle etc. There are also other scenes. Vol 38 July issue has a plate of Lord Walsingham and a foldout of Aylesbury Dairy Company. Examples of full page engraved plates in Vol 6 July to December 1842 are: Three New Leicester Wethers Three pigs W F Hobbs of Marks Hall Coggleshall Essex A Cape Sheet Smithfield Show cattle Club Dec 1840 Vol 38 of 1870 has A Royal Dorset Lamb. There are plates of horses in each volume. Aug 1870 the winner of the1870 Derby "Kingcraft" is featured. There is also a lovely plate showing a herd of cattle in Euston Park. Nov 1870 shows "The Staff" with a hunter sitting on a stone surrounded by the bag, his dogs and horse. Dec 1870 shoes Trojan - a prize Hereford bull. Vol 5 May 1942 has a plate of a Devon Bull and another of the death of an elk with three dogs. These are in wonderful condition. Volume 6 has a plate of the winner of the St Leger 1842 - Blue Bonnet Volumes 5 and 6 have in text illustrations. Vol 5 includes drawings of a tile and pipe machine and vol 6 has a number of drawings of ploughs and cultivators and also a foldout plan of Whitfield Example farm showing crops for 1842. Overall the plates are generally very clean, crisp and bright with only limited occasional light foxing- all lovely items.
