This book is generally in very good condition. There are folding plates in generally excellent condition. The 1st plate is an extra which is titled 'Arrival of her Majesty in the place du Carrousel Tuileries. There are soldiers standing outside a grand palace. Includes articles on the CRIMEAN WAR, the building of the largest ship in Sunderland, scenes of the Baltic fleet, a proposed Submarine railway between France and the UK, the arrival of the King of Sardinia. Original spine with 5 raised decorated bands well worn and laid down on new matching Morocco spine. Original morocco leather label with bright gold tooling. Binding tight. The boards are all original and the marbled papers are in good condition. The inside is in generally excellent condition. Includes Christmas colour supplement. ILN of this period were amongst the earliest to use photography. Roger Fenton's photographs of the Crimean War were used by the indirect method where wood engravings were copied from the photographs.
