Description / Information:
In good condition overall. Collection of plates of engravings and a poem or short story explaining each one. There is some foxing internally but this on most occasions away from the plates themselves. The first plate has a tear, which does not extend to the picture. A.e.g. The binding of the book is slightly loose. Good but dull boards with a few marks especially on front board. Faded spine with a small amount of damage to head of spine. It is a large format book estimated to be around the 1840's.The engraved pictures on a number of the plates are much cleaner than normal. However there are some stain marks on the lower border of the plates (none extend near the engraved pictures). The foxing (mainly restricted to the white boundary of the engraved pictures) varies from very light to a few where it is heavier. There is no sign of any title page or index as none appear to have been bound in. The first portraits are of Lady's Sara, Clementina and Adela - the daughters of the Earl of Jersey with descriptions by Disraeli. The last portraits are of Charles, Compton and William, the sons of Lady Elizabeth and Charles Dickens with descriptions by Mrs Fairle. Good boards with one or two marks. Slight damage to head and foot of spine - please see photographs; the binding looks to be contemporary. C.1840's. This book weighs 2.1kg so please enquire about postage cost.
