Volume IV with 36 exquisite HAND COLOURED plates. The brightness, quality and vibrancy of the colours of the plates have to be seen to be believed. Index included. All plates engraved and hand coloured. Some light foxing, mostly confined to the text. Pages uncut. Volume has personal bookplate. Original marbled boards in good condition. Red contemporary red leather corners and bright spine in very good condition. The magazine was founded in 1787 by William Curtis and has continued publication to the present day. The reputation of the magazine has always resided in the accuracy of its portrayal of plants." Curtis' principal artists were William Kilburn, James Sowerby and Sydenham T. Edwards. These skilled artists worked with him for 28 years, and it was they who were responsible for most of the plates that appeared in the magazine.
