Description / Information:
Packed weight = 01.00kg. Minimum postage applies. A very rare book in very good condition overall. Internally generally very clean with some light foxing to some pages. A number of colour plates in excellent bright condition. Neat inscription on f.e.p. Boards and spine in generally very good condition with slight dulling to edges. Blind stamped front board with bright gold. Rebacked boards. Spine has been professionally repaired. Fitch is famous for his botanical plates, of which he produced over 12,000 in his life. He was the main artist for the Curtis Botanical Magazine for many years. As a young man in Glasgow, he was initially trained as a landscape painter by Andrew Donaldson. The Curtis Botanical Magazine contains very few plates where plants are set within a landscape. Very unusually this book contains 20 pictures of trees set within the landscape. Most of this are views local to Kew and Windsor. See Jan Lewis' book on Fitch for further details. The Bianco Library website has 4 pictures of this book including both medium and large images. This description is to be read in conjunction with these photographs.
